About Huilongtan Park
The pool’s history reaches back to the late Ming period, while the public park has been rebuilt and reshaped over later centuries.
The water provides the main organizing feature for a quiet landscape visit. Its neighbour, the Confucian temple, gives the area an additional educational and architectural theme. Explore the pond setting first, then treat the temple as a separate visit with its own entrance arrangements. The park and temple should not be assumed to share a ticket or identical opening schedule.
Its pool, known as Huilongtan (汇龙潭), was built in 1588, during the Wanli era of the Ming dynasty. In 1929, during the Republic of China, the pool and its surrounding scenery were laid out as Kuishan Park (奎山公园), the earliest park in Jiading. The park suffered severe damage after the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Restoration of the Kuishan Park site began in the late 1970s, and the rebuilt park reopened to the public on 1 June 1979 under its present name, Huilongtan Park. A second-phase project was completed and opened on 12 March 1984. The park covers an area of 4.8 hectares.
