About Nanming Shan
A record near the lower Gaoyang entrance connects the landscape with Shen Kuo’s inspection of waterworks, while the other groups preserve accounts of visits across later centuries. The inscriptions make the hill a place to read human responses to the landscape as well as view the city. Check the current public trail access before planning a visit to the inscribed cliffs.
What to look for
- Gaoyang Cave’s inscriptions include a record associated with Shen Kuo’s waterworks inspection.
- The Shiliang and Yunge Cliff groups preserve contrasting clusters of rock inscriptions.
