About Anhui Hall of Fame
The displays progress from early ancestors and thinkers through later scholarly movements and modern change. A final section turns to Anhui’s theatrical traditions, widening the story beyond statesmen and philosophers. This is the newer Binhu museum, whose much broader exhibition replaced the small wax-figure attraction once located beside Dashu Mountain.
The museum's predecessor was a display hall inside the Shushan Gallery of Dashu Mountain Forest Park (大蜀山森林公园), which showed 42 Anhui historical figures. An expansion begun in March 1999 opened that September, presenting 50 Anhui figures from before the Qing dynasty. A 2005 renovation added a 'Celebrity Gallery' exhibition hall. The city then planned a new museum in the Binhu New District (滨湖新区), breaking ground on 30 September 2009; the new building began trial operation in March 2015 and formally opened in October 2015.
The new building has a floor area of 38,000 square meters and cost 450 million yuan (4.5亿元) to construct. Its exhibits expanded to cover 95 groups of more than 120 individuals, compared with the 42 to 50 figures shown in the earlier hall. In 2017 the museum was integrated with the Memorial Hall of the Crossing the Yangtze Campaign (渡江战役纪念馆); in 2020 it was rated a national second-class museum (国家二级博物馆), and it is designated a national 4A tourist attraction (国家4A级旅游景区).
