About Qinglong Gorge in Huairou
Qinglong Gorge is a reservoir and mountain scenic area in Huaibei, within Beijing's Huairou district. A dam built at the Dashuiyu reservoir outlet created the long body of water seen between the slopes. The surrounding Great Wall landscape gives the area a historical element alongside its water and mountain scenery.
The dam is a useful reference point for understanding the site: this is a managed reservoir landscape, with a narrow stretch of water shaped by both the valley and the structure across it. Views from the public shore show the steep sides and the relationship between water level, wooded slopes and the ridges above.
Choose whether your visit is primarily a walk, a water outing or a higher viewpoint before committing to activities. Operator descriptions include boat and uphill options, but these are separate experiences whose availability depends on the day. A scenic view of a wall or ridge should not be treated as permission to enter an unsigned mountain route.
What to look for
- The reservoir held behind the dam at the Dashuiyu outlet.
- Mountain slopes and ridges associated with the Great Wall landscape.
- Contrasting water-level and elevated views from signed visitor areas.
