About Jiangzhou Prefectural Office
The main hall was the prefect's place of government business. Seven bays and a reduced-column design create its broad interior, which retains Yuan-period architectural character. Two stone inscriptions on the north wall set out seven precepts for civil and military officials.
The surrounding ensemble has several distinct histories. The bell tower contains an iron bell cast in 1151, while the two-level music tower was used for performances. The garden began in 596 as a retreat for the prefect and his wife and has been repaired repeatedly. The present City God Temple was reconstructed on its original site in 2010.
