About Ningbo Old Bund
Ningbo's Old Bund is a historic waterfront district at the meeting of the Yong, Fenghua and Yao rivers. The port opened to foreign trade in 1844, and the surviving streetscape reflects an era of commercial exchange. Its Chinese and Western building forms sit beside a working contemporary city, giving the river walk both architectural and urban interest.
The district now combines heritage surroundings with restaurants, cafes, cultural uses and other businesses. The important contrast is between the old port frontage and the river junction that made it useful. Individual tenants change, while the relationship between buildings, streets and water remains a clear way to understand the area. This Old Bund belongs to Ningbo; it should not be confused with Shanghai's much longer and more frequently photographed Bund.
Begin at the riverside and then take a short circuit through the streets behind it. Compare rooflines, windows and facade treatments without assuming every building has the same age or original purpose. If you want to enter a particular cultural venue, locate that institution separately. A district walk does not automatically include access to every historic interior.
