About Lu Family Compound
Its principal Suyong Hall axis runs through nine successive sections. The front four began in the Ming period as spaces for ceremonies, gatherings and receiving guests; the rear five were built in the Qing period for family life. Carved timber and painted peony, dragon and phoenix motifs give the halls their distinctive decoration.
The Yaxi stream and connected lanes place the buildings within a larger clan settlement. Heting Academy adds another layer to that setting: Lu Ge established it beside a lotus pond in 1498 as a place for study and scholarly discussion.
