About Nanping Old Village
The halls face south, with houses extending behind them along lanes on either side. This layout reflects the ancestral hall's historical place in community life: it was a setting for worship, clan meetings and discussion of village rules, as well as a prominent building among family homes.
At the village's water-mouth, the traditional landscape setting at its edge, Wansong grove and Wansong Bridge provide a counterpart to the close-set halls and houses. The relationship between these shared spaces and the residential streets is a distinctive part of Nanping's village plan.
What to look for
- The south-facing row of Ye lineage ancestral halls in the village centre.
- Residential lanes extending back on either side of the halls.
- Wansong grove and Wansong Bridge at the village water-mouth.
