About Zhaji Old Village
The Xu Stream was the historic focus of commerce and dense housing. Buildings follow the slopes and waterways, while an underground drainage system channels water toward the stream. Honglou Bridge and the water-facing halls help make this relationship between houses and water visible.
Honggong Ancestral Hall was founded in the late Ming dynasty, although the building that survives reflects Qing rebuilding. Its rear upper floor rises with the hillside. The hall has been adapted to explain family traditions, while the Ming-period Erjia Ancestral Hall has hosted local customs such as dalianxiang, a dance performed with decorated sticks.
