About Jimei School Village and Aoyuan Garden
The school village began in 1913 and developed as a planned educational district with different schools, libraries, dormitories and recreation spaces. Its Jiageng architecture combines southern Fujian roof forms with Western-style building bodies and detailing influenced by Southeast Asia. Nanxun Building, built in 1959, is a distinctive landmark with a tall central clock tower and lower wings.
Aoyuan occupies the southeastern seafront of the school village. Tan Kah Kee was buried here after his death in 1961. The Jimei Liberation Monument, his tomb and a long entrance corridor form the memorial ensemble; relief carvings in blue stone depict historical figures and stories along the corridor and surrounding walls.
