About Daimei Old Village
The arrangement reflects village rules coordinating orientation, siting, style, services and drainage. The Ming–Qing houses face north, while later houses face south, but both follow the same ordered pattern. The Nanxi River winds around the village, making the relationship between buildings and water central to its appearance.
Wood carving, brick carving and clay decoration add detail to the houses and rooflines. Repairs have retained spaces for residents as well as visitor uses, so the village remains a place of everyday life within a carefully maintained historic setting.
What to look for
- The aligned red-brick houses and curved swallowtail roof ridges.
- The surrounding water and the changing orientation of older and later house rows.
- Carved wood, brick and clay decoration on the historic houses.
