About Taining Ancient City
Jinshi Street, Shangshu Street and Jiujuxiang form part of its network of old lanes. Shangshudi was built between 1621 and 1627 for Li Chunye, a senior official whose posts included minister of war. Its formal brick-and-timber halls carry carving in wood, brick and granite, with figures, birds and floral scrolls worked into the architecture.
Red Army Street, formerly Lingshang Street, adds a twentieth-century history: troops lodged in houses along the street, and revolutionary slogans remain among its relics. These monuments sit within a lived-in neighborhood shaped by continuing conservation and reuse.
