About Shidong Ancient Town
In Dangganglue village, part of Shidong town, 98 per cent of the population is from ethnic minorities and the local silverwork and embroidery tradition traces back more than 100 years, with several of its techniques listed as national-level intangible cultural heritage. Wu Shuigen, a recognised inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage 'Miao silver-ornament forging technique', demonstrates the craft in a silverwork workshop there and has created more than 200 fine silver-ornament pieces, including works titled 'Miao Story Totem Pole' and 'Dragon Boat Sailing Smoothly'. The Chunhua Intangible Heritage Museum in the same village is run by embroidery inheritor Tai Chunhua, who also heads a Miao costume and embroidery company founded in 2020 that produces embroidered handbags and notebooks.
The People's Daily Online report, which carries the dateline 31 October 2023, records that the Shidong Miao Culture Park opened in May of that year in Dangganglue village, with an initial 17 enterprises covering silverwork, embroidery, brocade and paper-cutting, and Miao-medicine tourism.
