About Feilai Temple Meili Snow Mountain Viewpoint
The Meili range lies within the core area of the Three Parallel Rivers World Natural Heritage site in Deqin County, Diqing prefecture; Kawagarbo, its main peak, rises to 6,740 m, which a People's Daily report describes as Yunnan's highest point. Deqin County recognises seven vantage points for viewing the range, called the 'Seven Views of Meili' (七望梅里): Xueda, Yagong and Adong villages, Feilaisi, Wunongding, and Hongpo and Tuola villages, running north to south. The phenomenon most sought from these viewpoints is 'sunlight gilding the mountain' (日照金山), when early sunlight turns the snow peaks gold for about 20 minutes before the light fades; the best viewing season is described as autumn to winter, from late October to the following March, when the local rainy season has passed.
