About Wulai Waterfall and Atayal Culture
Wulai combines a forested river valley, a prominent waterfall and a community closely associated with Atayal culture. The waterfall area and the lower old street are separate parts of the visit, so distinguish the place you want to reach when arranging transport.
The small railway recalls another layer of valley history. Originally used for timber transport, it was later adapted for visitors travelling toward the waterfall. Its industrial origin makes the journey more than a scenic ride, although current operating arrangements need checking separately.
At the waterfall, concentrate on the valley walls, forest and falling water rather than expecting an identical flow in every season. The visitor centre provides information and viewing space. Local cultural interpretation can add context to the landscape without treating contemporary Atayal residents as a visitor attraction.
