About Jinguashi and the Gold Museum
The Gold Museum occupies part of Jinguashi's former mining landscape in Ruifang. It is a group of buildings and outdoor heritage spaces, so the name should not suggest that the whole visit takes place inside one gallery.
Exhibitions introduce mining culture and the properties and uses of gold. Elsewhere in the museum area, Japanese-style dormitories, the Crown Prince Chalet grounds and mining-related structures offer evidence of the settlement that grew around extraction. Their different purposes are easier to follow with the museum's site map.
The Benshan Fifth Tunnel experience gives another perspective on work underground, while shrine remains belong to the wider industrial landscape. These elements have separate access conditions, and an advertised tunnel experience should not be interpreted as permission to enter abandoned mine workings elsewhere in the hills.
What to look for
- Displays connecting gold with local mining history.
- Japanese-style buildings from the mining settlement.
- Designated tunnel interpretation and industrial heritage outdoors.
