About Shengxing Station and the Old Mountain Line
Shengxing Station occupies a small hillside settlement in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, on the historic mountain railway. Its position, around 402 metres above sea level, reflects the engineering challenge of taking a railway through this terrain. The station belongs to the development of the line in the early twentieth century.
The wooden station building is the immediate focus, with its distinctive roof, supports and compact passenger spaces. Railway objects and retained fittings help connect the attractive exterior to the practical tasks once carried out here: controlling train movements, waiting, ticketing and handling traffic through the mountain section. The surrounding houses make the station legible as part of a working settlement rather than an isolated monument.
The broader Old Mountain Line includes more than this station. Tracks, tunnels and other heritage sites occupy separate locations, and a visit to Shengxing does not establish that every section can be walked or travelled.
