About China National Film Museum
China National Film Museum (中国电影博物馆) explores the history, production and technology of Chinese cinema. It is a film museum with exhibition and screening spaces, so a visit can focus on how films are made as well as on films themselves.
The institution was created to mark a century of Chinese filmmaking and opened to the public in 2007. Its dark exterior and screen-like architectural elements introduce the subject before entering. Inside, exhibition halls trace cinema's development through material displays, technical interpretation and stories from different periods of filmmaking.
Treat the museum galleries and the projection theatres as two related activities. A film screening follows its own programme and cannot be inferred from the museum's general admission arrangements. For a first visit, use the historical display to establish a timeline, then spend more time with the production processes that interest you. This is a museum experience, not a working film-studio tour or a promise of access to an active set.
