About Baili Bamboo Sea

Large gypsum deposits lay beneath the bamboo forest, and as the construction industry grew, mining expanded until the resource was rapidly exhausted, leaving dust, groundwater seepage, stream stoppages, road subsidence, cracked buildings and polluted farmland. The change began in 2017: the Liangping district committee and government closed five gypsum mines within Baili Zhuhai and designated a 6.4 square kilometre ecological protection zone, with mine-site restoration, subsidence and landslide remediation, river-course treatment and the upgrading of low-yield bamboo stands. The Mingyueshan-Baili Zhuhai scenic area held a trial opening in June 2018 and received more than 500,000 visitors and 250 million yuan in tourism revenue within its first three months. On 30 June 2022 Liangping hosted the first Mingyue Mountain Ecological Tourism Culture Festival, bringing together six neighbouring Chongqing-Sichuan border districts and counties.

The resort area is made up of named component scenic areas. Guanyindong, at the resort's south gate, covers more than 3,000 mu and is a national AAAA-grade scenic area in its own right, named for a temple built in the late Tang dynasty, more than 1,000 years old; it also contains Feilian Plaza and a water park amid its bamboo-forest scenery. The Lieshen area's core sites are named as Lieshen Three Lanes, the Lieshen Hometown Memory Hall, Mengxi Tianyuan garden, the Titang wetland terraces, a former mine site, the Multicoloured Fields and Qinhai (Lute Sea), and the area hosts recurring events including a bamboo-shoot festival, a 'Night Bamboo Sea, Tide Life' rural music concert and a beer festival.
