Yancheng Milk Tea (盐埕奶茶) is the milk tea of Xinle Street (新樂街) in the Yancheng District (鹽埕區) of Kaohsiung (高雄), a street that locals call 'Milk Tea Street' for its many tea-drink shops. Huada Milk Tea (樺達奶茶) has its main shop there, according to Chinese Wikipedia.

Where it comes from

Xinle Street was first known as Kaohsiung's 'Gold Street'. Chinese Wikipedia describes it as a street of jewellers that thrived in the 1960s and 1970s and declined with the rest of Yancheng. A 2022 Central News Agency (中央社) report quoting the Yancheng Research Society (鹽埕研究社), a local group, said the street had once been the most upmarket jewellery street in Kaohsiung, and that in recent years long-established milk-tea shops had drawn many other specialty drink shops around them, with 12 milk-tea shops along 550 metres of street.

How it is eaten

The Yancheng Research Society began a Yancheng Milk Tea Festival on the street in 2020 to revive trade in Yancheng's shopping streets, and its third edition in 2022 ran a stamp card across 35 partner shops. On 19 and 20 September 2026 a Kaohsiung Milk Tea Festival, listed by the Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau (高雄市政府觀光局), took place around Yanchengpu metro station (鹽埕埔站), near 'Milk Tea Street' and the Pier-2 Art Center (駁二藝術特區); visitors dressed in milk-tea colours could claim a limited-edition picnic mat after completing set tasks.
