About Xiamen University Campus
Tan Kah Kee founded the university in 1921. Its historic architecture includes the Qunxian, Jiannan and Furong building groups. Beside Furong Lake, the Furong buildings create a partly enclosed campus centre: red-brick walls and white granite details support green glazed-tile roofs with upturned swallowtail ridges. Western-style arches and verandas sit below Chinese roofs, giving a concrete example of Jiageng architecture's combination of regional and overseas influences.
