About Yongning Ancient Garrison Town
The Ming government established Yongning Wei in 1387 as part of a regional coastal defence system. Its later commercial life is visible along the east-west old street, which combines red-brick houses, overseas-influenced residences and Republican-period arcaded buildings.
Some buildings also tell a modern conservation story. Yize Building, a 1953 house associated with a family connected to the Philippines, was moved from Ziying Village and rebuilt in the old town. Aoshui Academy, linked to the garrison's educational tradition, has undergone recent repairs.
