About Happy Valley Shenzhen
Happy Valley Shenzhen (深圳欢乐谷) is a large amusement park in Overseas Chinese Town (华侨城), Nanshan District (南山区), Shenzhen. It opened on 1 October 1998 as the first park of the Happy Valley chain.
The park spreads over 350,000 m² and was in the first group of sites rated national AAAAA tourist attractions (国家5A级旅游景区). A third phase of construction opened on 1 May 2005. The chain it started now counts nine Happy Valley parks, in Shenzhen, Beijing, Nanjing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Chongqing and Xi'an, all built by the Shenzhen-based OCT Group (华侨城集团).
The grounds are split into themed zones. Spanish Square (西班牙广场) lies outside the gates; inside are Mt. Adventure (冒险山), Gold Mine Town (金矿镇), Shangri-la Woods (香格里拉·雪域), Typhoon Bay (飓风湾), Sunshine Beach (阳光海岸), Happy Times (欢乐时光) and the Playa Maya Water Park (玛雅水公园), whose buildings and statues are in Mayan architectural styles.
Snow Mountain Flying Dragon (雪山飞龙), a Vekoma suspended looping coaster that opened on 1 May 2002, climbs to 35.9 m and turns riders upside down four times. A Vekoma mine train ran from 2002 until February 2022; the Gold Mine Train, a mine coaster built by Jinma Rides, opened on 7 January 2023. Other rides include a Mack Rides Power Splash ride added in 2019, and the Space Shuttle (太空梭) thrill ride.
