About Wailingding Island

The Yudai Huanyao path follows the shoreline near the settlement, while the Lingding Peak Stone Scenic Park gives a higher view over the surrounding sea. Choose the coastal route first if arriving with limited time, and treat the summit as a separate uphill addition. Island plans depend on the booked ferry and sea conditions, so preserve a clear margin for the return sailing.

Wailingding Island is one of the islands of the Wanshan Archipelago (万山群岛), located in its north-central part and administered by Zhuhai; the government of Dan'gan Town (担杆镇) is seated on the island. It covers 4.32 square kilometers. Hong Kong's Cheung Chau (长洲) lies about 10 kilometers to its north, and Jiangmen's Da Guanghai Bay (大广海湾) about 100 kilometers to its west. The island is not located within Lingdingyang (伶仃洋) and lies far from Neilingding Island (内伶仃岛).

The gazetteer Yue Da Ji (粤大记) marked the island as 'Wailingding'. Hong Kong's Lantau Island lies roughly midway between Wailingding and Neilingding Island, at about equal distance from each. Wailingding has a permanent population, concentrated mainly around Dan'gan Town and Miaowan (庙湾) on its western coast.

What to look for

  • Yudai Huanyao is a stone-stepped coastal path beside the island settlement.
  • The Lingding Peak Stone Scenic Park adds a rocky, elevated sea-view setting.

Location & getting there

Getting to Wailingding Island

Book a sailing specifically to Wailingding Island and follow the departure terminal printed on the ticket. Jiuzhou Port began regular Wanshan-island services in March 2026, while Xiangzhou Port services were adjusted; do not assume an older Xiangzhou-only itinerary still identifies your terminal.

General visit reminders

Choose the specific shore, port or island access point before arranging transport. Check local weather and the current operating arrangements for any ferry or coastal activity. A coastal map pin is a reference for the named place and does not establish a swimming area or a boat departure point.
