About Daxiaojing Scenic Area
The area holds a karst cave cluster of nearly a hundred siphon-shaped caves that combine mountain, water and cave together: the hills hold caves, the caves hold water, and the water falls as waterfalls. In October 1996, Chinese and foreign karst-cave specialists who examined the caves were struck by their scenery and, in their survey reports and writings, called the group 'the wonder cave under heaven' and 'the museum of eastern caves.' The county names 19 features open to visitors within the area, among them Biying pool, Yueliang (Moon) cave, Xiangshui cave, the Rongli sinkhole cluster, Pogong stone forest, the Dajing peak cluster, Tiande cave, Shizi (Lion) cave and a stand of old banyan trees.
The Dajing river runs between the villages of Dajing and Xiaojing, and the scenic area also takes in the villages of Dongdang and Luoya. Guizhou Daily's report describes bamboo-raft drifting on the Dajing river, and a boatman going down to the bank early each morning to build a raft out of curved phoenix-tail bamboo. It holds ninety-nine sinkholes and caves in all, one of which Guizhou Daily describes as the largest super-sinkhole discovered anywhere in the world so far. The scenic area has a bridge of its own, the Daxiaojing bridge, on the Pingluo expressway, with a main span of 450 metres and a total length of 1.5 kilometres, which the same newspaper describes as the largest-span upper-deck steel-tube concrete arch bridge built in mountainous terrain anywhere in the world. Village homestays and farm restaurants serve local dishes such as huangdouji, a stir-fry of soybeans and chicken.
