About Shuangru Twin Peaks
The peaks cover 40 hectares, reach 1,265.8 metres in elevation with a relative height of over 261.8 metres, and are said to appear as different shapes when viewed from different angles. Local Buyi people have long worshipped them as 'Mother Earth' and the 'source of life,' and the county's tourism account states that geologists who investigated the peaks found nothing comparable elsewhere in China or the world. Below the peaks lie farmlands irrigated by the jade-belt-shaped Sancha river, and a well-known couplet associated with the site is remembered by visitors.
Since 2007 the county government and associated bodies have built up a scenic area around the peaks and the nearby Zhulinbao stone forest, adding features grouped as ten highlights: the peaks themselves, the stone forest, an original-ecology Buyi culture zone, a national-intangible-heritage zone, a celebrity stele forest, a salt-lake water amusement centre, a lakeside bathing beach, camping grounds and star-rated hotels. It is graded a national AAAA tourist attraction, and the county's 2021-2035 land-use plan names it, alongside the Beipanjiang Grand Canyon National Wetland Park and the Longtou Dashan water-source forest nature reserve, as one of the three protected areas in the county's nature-protection system, under the formal designation Zhenfeng Shuangru Feng Scenic Area.
