About Yeyuhai Resort

Yejiping sits at an average elevation of about 2,300 metres in a plateau monsoon climate, with an average temperature of 13 degrees, 240 frost-free days and 1,175 millimetres of rain a year on the municipal government's figures. The resort as described there takes in flower fields, wetland, lakes and pine forest alongside sports grounds and tracks, resort hotels, a military experience camp and a practical training base. Yushe National Forest Park, one of the cores of the scenic area, covers 34 square kilometres on a spur of the Wumeng mountains at the head of the Pearl River system; the municipal page gives it a total area of 50,314 mu and a range of altitude from 1,700 to 2,503 metres.

The third component is a built settlement. The Haiping Yi culture town lies in the south of Shuicheng and was built around the Haiping poverty-relief resettlement site, planned in six clusters after the Yi historical division known as the six ancestors' branches, with architecture combining traditional Yi stilt houses, courtyards and earth-walled houses. Inside it are a Yi customs street and a commercial street, a Torch Festival square, the Nine-Tiered Palace history and culture museum, a solar calendar square, a whip-and-top museum and a Ximuzhe square. The World Whip and Top Museum is itself built as a cone narrower at the base than at the top, in the shape of a spinning top. On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth lunar month, local Yi people gather at the Haiping torch square for the Torch Festival, singing and dancing round bonfires into the night.
