It is a useful choice for travellers who want a coastal walk with access to central Sanya or the airport side of town. The bay covers a long distance, so hotel locations matter. Choose a particular public promenade section and treat swimming, island excursions and hotel facilities as separate activities with their own conditions.

Sanya Bay is designated a National Tourism Resort Area (国家旅游度假区). Sanya Bay Road runs along the coastline, which consists mainly of beach lined with coconut trees, and the bay also has public squares and a coastal park. Its waters are shallow and hydrologically stable, and are used mainly for swimming and beach camping.

In recent years, as the bay's waters have become clearer and healthier, several dolphin species, including endangered Chinese white dolphins, have been seen along the coast from time to time, though as of 2017 they were not treated as a targeted tourism attraction.

Getting to Sanya Bay

Specify the section of Sanya Bay Road near your accommodation or chosen public beach entrance. The eastern urban waterfront and western resort stretches require different transfers.
