About Jimingyi Post Town
Jimingyi is a walled former postal station in Huailai County, built around the work of relaying official messages and supporting travellers. Its surviving layout shows how communications, storage and defence could be organised within a small fortified settlement. It lies below Jiming Mountain near the Yang River.
The provincial heritage record identifies the surviving town as a Ming-period station with later repairs. East and west gates, streets, the former station office area, stables and storage zones formed an ordered system. Temples, shops and homes supplied the other needs of a place through which people and official business continually passed.
Walking the town is therefore an exercise in reading function as well as appearance. Consider how a messenger could enter, change horses, obtain supplies and leave again. The enclosed streets and defensive walls tell a story distinct from a large provincial city, while inhabited buildings remain part of the contemporary village.
