About Wansuishan Martial Arts City
Wansuishan Martial Arts City (万岁山武侠城) is a theme park on the middle section of Dongjing Avenue (东京大道) in Longting District (龙亭区), Kaifeng (开封), Henan. It recreates a jianghu (江湖), the martial-arts world of Chinese wuxia fiction, through staged shows and performers in period costume.
Kaifeng Wansuishan Tourist Area Co., Ltd. (开封市万岁山游览区有限公司) has operated the park since October 2003. It was originally called Wansuishan Great Song Martial Arts City (万岁山大宋武侠城) and was renamed in December 2023. In September 2018 it was rated a national AAAA tourist attraction (国家4A级旅游景区).
Visitors walk through old-style lanes where martial-arts shows run one after another and costumed performers, known as NPCs, stay in role and play along with the crowd. In March 2026 an assistant director of the park's performance centre told Dingduan News (顶端新闻) that there are roughly 2,000 of these performers, each street district has its own style, and three to four thousand performances are staged each day. Dingduan News names two shows as the core of the programme: San Da Zhujiazhuang (三打祝家庄, 'Three Attacks on the Zhu Family Village'), a live battle fought on horseback, and, once night falls, Da Tiehua (打铁花, 'striking iron flowers'), an intangible-heritage feat. The park also created a game with 'silver notes' (银票): visitors earn them through encounters in the streets and exchange them for gifts at pedlars' stalls.
The act that made the park widely known is Wang Po Matchmaking (王婆说媒), an in-person dating show. Zhao Mei (赵梅) began playing Wang Po, a character from the novel Water Margin (水浒传), at the park around 2018. In 2023 the park set up a stage where her Wang Po tried to pair up single visitors, and the show went viral online in March 2024. From 2 April 2024 the show's venue has been divided into areas for single men, single women and onlookers.
