About Mui Wo and Silvermine Bay
Mui Wo is a coastal town on eastern Lantau Island, with a ferry pier, neighbourhood food businesses and a promenade leading toward Silvermine Bay Beach. It offers a view of everyday island life close to the water. The shore can be enjoyed as a local walk without immediately continuing onto Lantau’s longer mountain trails.
The Silvermine name recalls the area’s former silver and lead mining. Today, the waterfront links the cooked-food market, cycling activity and beach, with village paths extending inland. This combination of a transport landing, shoreline leisure and rural surroundings gives Mui Wo a broader identity than simply a ferry interchange or a beach stop.
Walk from the pier toward the bay and compare the busier arrival area with the quieter sections of waterfront. Leave enough time for a meal or a pause at the beach before returning. Inland waterfalls and former mining places require their own route choices; their presence in a destination description does not mean every path is level or every old structure is open.
What to look for
- Follow the waterfront between the pier and Silvermine Bay.
- Notice how the mining name survives in the modern coastal town.
