About Chaibuxi Grand Canyon
The canyon belongs to the same Wuling range as Zhangjiajie, and its scenery is of the same karst peak-forest type: clusters of stone pinnacles on the cliff tops above a deep valley with clear streams. Its mouth lies 5 kilometres from Yuyangguan Town, the eastern gateway of Wufeng County, with the Qingjiang River in neighbouring Changyang to the north. The city government groups the canyon's attractions under four headings, cliff-top stone forests, deep valleys and streams, primary ecology and Tujia ethnic culture, and counts more than 120 named features.
For visitors the area is divided into four scenic sections, Tanzikou, Dawankou, Jiaokou and Duanshankou, with a further inner zone kept as an ecological protection area rather than a touring section. Tourism development began under the county tourism bureau in 1990, and national forest park status followed in 1995. The valley settlements are Tujia, and the city profile notes local traditions of Nanqu ballad singing, mountain songs and Tujia dance.
