About Mengli Water Village

The area is planned over 5,030 mu and is being built in three phases, drawing on the plain's characteristic mixture of water, woodland and farmland and taking Jianghan Plain folk culture as its organising theme. Its functional zones include Hetang, or Lotus Pond, Village, a countryside wetland park, a rural flower garden, a local eco-park, an amusement park, a wellness park and a recreational-vehicle camp, with rural tourism, farming experience, holiday stays and wellness as the intended uses. It was rated a national AAAA tourist area in December 2019.

The woodland that gives the site its character comes from its origin as a forest farm rather than from landscaping: the trees lining the approach road are said locally to have been planted more than fifty years ago by workers at a 'May Seventh' cadre school. Within the grounds, a stand of pond cypress grows in standing water, the wetland section can be crossed by pleasure boat, and a flower area is planted for successive seasons.

• Hetang Village, whose set piece is an outsized steamer presented with a Guinness record claim

• Qinzhou Huapan, a flower area planted in succession with lavender, corn poppy and tulips
