About Zhaojun Village
Xingshan County lies in western Hubei on the north side of the Yangtze's Xiling Gorge and identifies itself as Wang Zhaojun's home county; the tourism area is one of its principal sites. The village backs onto Shamao Mountain and faces the Xiangxi River, and the grounds bring together more than twenty named spots, among them Niangniang Spring, the Dressing Terrace, a statue of Zhaojun, the Qin-playing Terrace, Fendai Grove, Jiali Island, the Washing-silk Spot and Caishi Beach. Yichang records it as a key cultural heritage protection unit of Hubei province and as one of the city's 'new ten scenic sights'.
Two buildings carry the collections. The Zhaojun Memorial Hall displays Han- and Tang-dynasty artefacts excavated within the village, and the Zhaojun Academy holds editions of classical works recording what writers over the centuries made of her story. The names of both the memorial hall and the village were inscribed by the writer Guo Moruo.
