About Qixia Mountain and Qixia Temple
The temple stands at the western foot of the mountain's central peak, its halls rising in stages with the slope. Founded in the Southern Qi period, it has been rebuilt repeatedly, including a major revival in the early twentieth century. Maple foliage gives the surrounding wooded slopes their celebrated autumn colour.
Southeast of Pilu Hall stands the relic pagoda, which has Sui origins and was rebuilt in the Southern Tang. Farther east, the Thousand Buddha Cliff preserves carvings made during the Southern Qi and Liang periods. These stone monuments add a much older layer to the temple's later halls.
