Zhenze in Wujiang grew beside the Ditang River, linking silk production with a townscape of bridges, a pagoda and courtyard houses.

About Zhenze Ancient Town

The river supplied water for silk reeling as well as a route through the surrounding water country. By the Ming period, Zhenze had become a notable silk market, and sericulture and the silk trade continued to shape its economy through the Qing.

At the eastern end of Baota Street, the single arch of Yuji Bridge and the rising Ciyun Temple Pagoda form the town's characteristic paired view. Shijiantang, a historic courtyard property, stands toward the street's western end.
