About Anfu Wugong Mountain
Wugong Mountain lies on the northern Luoxiao range straddling Hunan and Jiangxi and was once ranked with Hengshan and Lushan as one of the three great mountains south of the Yangtze. Within Jiangxi its main ridge runs for more than 120 kilometres across Luxi County (Pingxiang), Yuanzhou District (Yichun) and Anfu County (Ji'an), each of which operates its own scenic area — a 'one mountain, three administrations' situation that Jiangxi addressed in 2021 with coordinated legislation creating separate regulations for the Pingxiang Wugong Mountain, Yichun Mingyue Mountain and Ji'an Wugong Mountain sections. The Anfu side is run by the Anfu Wugong Mountain management committee and carries the designations of the whole range: national scenic area, national forest park, national geopark and national natural heritage, with a 4A rating.
The Jinding area preserves large tracts of primary and secondary forest with more than 2,000 plant species including ginkgo and yew, a belt of Huangshan pine above 1,500 metres, and, above 1,600 metres, some 100,000 mu of alpine meadow described as the largest at this latitude. The mountain was also a religious centre where Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian traditions met, and the summit retains a group of ancient altars, counted with the meadows and the Baishajiang waterfalls among its three outstanding sights. Anfu's Jinding and Jifeng sections opened to visitors in July 2013 and the Yangshimu section the following year; the Jifeng section includes the Jifeng Jade Emperor Hall, the old pilgrims' path, the Guangji and Taiji temples, the Tuping Taoist grove, a giant ginkgo and the Bailongyan and Longtan waterfalls.
