About Changchun World Sculpture Park

The Friendship, Peace and Spring monument supplies a visual centre, while the African art collection introduces Makonde wood carving in a more concentrated indoor setting. The Wei Xiaoming museum adds sculpture, drawings and related work by one artist. Choosing the outdoor collection and one indoor museum creates a clearer visit than trying to inspect every sculpture scattered across the grounds.

Changchun World Sculpture Park was founded in 2001 and officially opened in September 2003. It covers an area of 92 hectares (230 acres), including 11 hectares (27 acres) of lakes, combining natural and cultural landscapes under the theme of 'friendship, peace and spring'. The sculpture tower embodying this theme was co-authored by the sculptors Ye Shan, Pan He, Cheng Yunxian, Wang Keqing and Cao Chunsheng, and stands 29.5 meters (97 ft) high.

The tower is composed of young girls, flowers and doves of peace, surrounded by five groups of cast bronze statues and white marble reliefs representing the five continents; it won the outstanding works prize at the Third National City Sculpture Construction Achievement Exhibition. The Changchun Sculpture Art Museum, built on a slope and opened to the public in 2003, covers 12,500 square meters and houses exhibition halls, lecture halls, multi-functional halls and creative rooms alongside its African wood-carving collection.

The park has been named a national 5A-class tourist attraction. It holds more than 340 sculptures from more than 130 countries and over 300 sculptors, including works reflecting Ma'anshan, Eskimo and Maori cultures alongside Indo-European, African, Latin American and East Asian traditions.
