About Beihai National Marine Park
Its signature rock landscape is Longgong Yitiaojie, a roughly two-kilometre line of coastal rock walls shaped by waves, currents and tides. Individual forms have names inspired by animals and figures, and the changing tide alters how much of this rocky edge is visible.
The red beach has a different origin: its colour comes from dense growths of Suaeda, a salt-tolerant coastal plant. Together, the rock formations, tidal shore and vegetated wetland show several kinds of coastal landscape within the park.
What to look for
- The sculpted sea-eroded rock walls of Longgong Yitiaojie.
- The Suaeda vegetation that gives Beihai's red beach its colour.
- The contrast between the sandy shoreline, exposed rocks and coastal wetland.
