About Guanmen Mountain
Its national forest park includes Xiaohuangshan, Jialazi, Longmen Gorge and Yuetaizi. Rocky summits and pines rise above the valleys, while the Tang River gathers smaller streams and waterfalls as it passes through the mountain gap.
The vegetation gives the landscape distinct seasonal forms. Mountain azaleas and Magnolia sieboldii feature among the flowering plants, and the extensive maple woodland is especially associated with autumn colour. The contrast between wooded slopes, exposed rock and running water is a defining part of the scenery.
What to look for
- The opposing peaks that give Guanmenshan its gateway-like name.
- The Tang River, tributary streams and waterfalls within the forest park.
- Maple woodland and pine-covered rock peaks around the park's named valleys.
