About Hanfeng Lake · Wenfeng Pagoda
The prominent nine-storey tower is a modern reconstruction, completed in 2014, while remains of the older pagoda preserve the site's earlier history nearby. Its octagonal form and upturned eaves belong to a broader lakeside setting devoted to education and scholarship, with Shengshan Academy and a Confucian temple in the garden. Looking at both the rebuilt tower and the old remains gives a more accurate picture than treating the entire structure as an untouched Qing monument.
What to look for
- Reconstructed Wenfeng Pagoda: observe the octagonal tower and layered eaves from the lakeside grounds.
- Old pagoda remains: the surviving earlier site provides a contrast with the large modern reconstruction.
