Liziba Guidao Chuanlou Guanjingdian

Liziba Station is a stop on Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 in Yuzhong District, built into floors six and seven of a residential-commercial building beside the Jialing river. Completed in March 2004, the district government describes it as China's first cast-straddle-type elevated monorail station built to coexist with such a building, and a dedicated public viewing platform was added below it in 2018.

About Liziba Train-Through-Building Viewpoint

The station has a footprint of 3,100 square metres and a floor area of 6,000 square metres, occupying the sixth and seventh floors of the building at 39 Liziba Zhengjie. Construction of the separate viewing platform began in May 2018; designers used a 'golden triangle' photographic-composition principle to fix the best shooting position, 33 degrees from the rail entrance, and the platform's builders brought its trial opening forward from a planned end-of-August date, opening for trials on 21 August 2018, ahead of that year's Smart China Expo. The finished platform covers about 1,367 square metres, including an 840-square-metre photography zone, divided into a tour-bus drop-off area, a photography plaza, a glass skywalk section and a walking passage, with two footpaths added connecting to Liziba Park and Jiabin Road.

On the slope below the station stands a large relief sculpture called 'Soul of the Rock', by the artist Jiang Bibo, worked in two parts: a realistic lower section showing pedestrians looking out over the city from a bridgehead, and an upper section, a large stylised head carved from the rock's own form. The slope itself was replanted with golden-edge broadleaf liriope, nasturtium, mucuna and ivy, with more than 200 bougainvillea at its top, watered by an automatic sprinkler system.

What to look for

  • The viewing platform's glass skywalk section, one of its four zones alongside the tour-bus drop-off area, the photography plaza and the walking passage.
  • The shooting position the designers fixed at a 33-degree angle to the rail entrance, using the 'golden triangle' composition principle.
  • 'Soul of the Rock', the relief sculpture by Jiang Bibo on the slope below the station, its lower section realistic and its upper section worked from the rock's own form.
  • The replanted slope, with its bougainvillea massed at the top and its automatic sprinkler system.
