About Fengdu Ghost City Mingshan Scenic Area

A Chongqing municipal government tourist-route feature traces Fengdu's history to its status as an ancient secondary capital of the state of Ba, with a county established in the second year of the Yongyuan era of Emperor He of the Eastern Han — by conventional reign-year reckoning, 90 CE. The hill carries 27 temples, and a later-built Ghost Kingdom Palace is an animated attraction using modern sound, light, motion, electrical, sculptural and laser effects to stage nearly 200 ghost stories associated with the site. Facing Mingshan across the way is Shuanggui Shan, whose main sights include Luming Temple, Su Gong Ci, Enlai Pavilion and a Confucius temple.

A Huolong Wang report quotes Fengdu County culture and tourism officials describing the Mingshan Cultural and Creative Industry Park, also called Mingshan Cultural Park, then under construction: a 9.6-square-kilometre project with 5 billion yuan of planned investment, divided into a core scenic zone, an ancestor-worship zone, a farming-experience zone and an intangible-heritage zone. The core scenic zone covers protective redevelopment of Mingshan itself along with Wuyu Shan, Shuanggui Shan and Xiaoguan Shan, with planned attractions including a 'phoenix ascension' feature and a 'night tour of the ghost city'; the ancestor-worship zone is built around the Fenghuangshan cemetery, drawing on Mingshan's standing in Daoism as one of the 'thirty-six grotto-heavens and seventy-two blessed lands'.
