About Puhua Underground River
Puhua Underground River is the karst landscape component of Qianjiang's Zhuoshui scenic area. Underground water, natural stone bridges and open sinkholes provide a different experience from the streets and covered bridge of Zhuoshui Ancient Town.
The district's description identifies three natural bridges, the underground river, a canyon and large openings above the water. Two openings separated by a rock bridge create the feature popularly described as the Eyes of Heaven. The effect depends on looking upward from within the river landscape, with changes between enclosed rock and daylight giving the route its character. These are Qianjiang's water-linked natural bridges, distinct from the famous Three Natural Bridges in Wulong. Pairing the river with Zhuoshui town gives a useful contrast between karst geology and the area's built heritage.
