The cluster belongs to the Fujian Tulou World Heritage property and represents a local tradition of shared family housing built with load-bearing rammed-earth walls. Its buildings sit closely together but follow the shape of the valley. Cultivated plots are interspersed through the village and continue up the surrounding slopes, tying the large dwellings to the agricultural landscape.
