About Lingtong Mountain
Lava-built rock masses and cliff faces rise among subtropical evergreen woodland, with narrow waterfalls adding a vertical thread of water to the landscape. The mountain’s volcanic forms give it a different texture from the low coastal hills farther east.
Lingtong Temple occupies a recess on Qingtian Peak above a deep valley. Its present buildings combine reinforced concrete and timber: Tianwang Hall stands on the lower level, while the main Buddha hall and bell and drum towers occupy the upper level. A waterfall descending in front of the temple is known as the bead-curtain waterfall.
What to look for
- The volcanic pinnacles and lava cliffs above the woodland.
- Lingtong Temple’s halls arranged within the cliff recess on Qingtian Peak.
- The bead-curtain waterfall in front of the temple, whose appearance depends on water flow.
