About China Shipbuilding Culture Museum and Mawei Shipyard Site
The museum’s new home opened in January 2022 inside a converted shipyard warehouse. Its historical exhibition follows the founding of the shipbuilding administration, technical education, manufacture, the navy and the institution’s wider cultural influence. The building sits along the old axis connecting Tianhou Temple, the administration compound, the shipyard and the river.
The surrounding industrial remains include the engine workshop, drafting institute and No. 1 dock. Their conserved fabric adds a physical account of work and production to the museum’s modern displays. Reversible repairs and reuse of former workshops are part of the site’s recent history, alongside the nineteenth-century structures.
