About Birds' Paradise
Its core is a small island covered by a dense banyan canopy. The trees and surrounding water form the essential landscape: branches, aerial roots and reflected foliage create shelter for birds rather than an ornamental garden with separate specimen trees.
The place also has a literary association with Ba Jin, whose essay helped make it known. Approach the visit as observation of a living habitat, allowing time to look across the water and into the canopy. Bird numbers and activity vary naturally, so the landscape and the banyan island remain the reliable focus even when wildlife is less visible.
What to look for
- The dense banyan canopy covers the small island at the centre of the wetland.
- Water and tree cover form the habitat used by local birdlife.
