CCTV.com's own report records that on 30 November 1999 the Shixin village committee of Zhangmutou signed a joint-development contract with a private company to develop the mountain's original secondary forest and the scenery of Bijia Mountain, Xiangong Ridge, Feiyun Mountain and Xianquan Reservoir into a nature park. The Dongguan municipal government office approved the park's establishment in December 2001; the former State Forestry Administration upgraded it to national forest park status in December 2005; and it was graded a national AAAA scenic area in December 2009.

CCTV.com gives the park's area as 18 square kilometres with forest cover above 80 percent, describing it as holding the largest tract of original secondary forest in Dongguan, and records more than 1,000 plant species and more than 300 animal species including mammals, birds, crustaceans and insects. It also describes the park's Ancient Tree Museum, which displays trees from different historical periods, the oldest more than 4,500 years old.
