About Guangdong First Peak Scenic Area
The scenic area combines primeval forest, high-mountain waterfalls, deep gorges and high-altitude cloud seas. A mountain road climbs from 200 metres to the 1,902-metre summit through more than 800 continuous bends, including sharp turns, S-bends and U-shaped hairpins. Along the main mountain road lies Tianmen Hualang (Sky Gate Gallery), with peaks, deep gorges and near-constant cloud and mist around the winding road.
Elsewhere in Chengjia Yao Township, Shanmei Kangqiao is a covered bridge spanning the Chengjia River, built with mortise-and-tenon jointed timber framing and incorporating Yao totem and traditional ethnic-pattern motifs. Taipingdong Nanmu village, a settlement built into the hillside in the Nanling mountains, preserves an original rural character and holds a thousand-year-old Chinese yew tree, still vigorous with dense foliage.
